Footsteps two when I am one; Shuttered stalls eat half the sun. Her echo salts the back of teeth; I wear her rumour underneath. Streetlamp sputters, spells it plain— Even shadows say her name. Your shadow knows my name— Follows close, won’t explain. Kisses cold, feels the same; Your shadow knows my name. Lift-mirror splits my face in two; Her smile clicks in like a view. Doorway breath—a velvet threat; I chase the dark; it nets. Bridge: the taxi log still shows the street; She paid in cash and said “delete.” Your shadow knows my name— Follows close, won’t explain. Kisses cold, feels the same; Your shadow knows my name. Say it. Save it. Your shadow knows my name— Till the sirens blur the frame. If you come, I’ll take the blame— Your shadow names my shame.

Footsteps two when I am one Window glass eats half the sun I taste her echo on my teeth I wear her rumor underneath Streetlight flickers, spells it plain Even shadows say her name Your shadow knows my name Follows close, won’t explain Kisses cold, feels the same Your shadow knows my name Lift mirror splits my face I see her smile take its place Doorway breath, a velvet threat I chase the dark, it’s all I get I count to ten, it counts again I lose, it wins, amen Your shadow knows my name Follows close, won’t explain Kisses cold, feels the same Your shadow knows my name Say it Save it Your shadow knows my name Till the dawn burns out the frame If you come, I’ll take the blame Your shadow knows my name
