A soft suit holds its hush around her bones. Phones bloom—cold anemones—out of the crowd. Each lens lifts like a minor moon, recording. A low ceiling sweats; the rafters keep their counsel. She stands in the cone of a hired star, steady. Still. Hands unlit at her sides, pockets full of breath. Faces become blue weather behind the glass. Thumbs ratchet shutters—hold. Focus. Keep. The room is a shallow harbour of attention; light breaks on her collar and runs down the seam. Someone coughs—a gull that won’t be trained. Someone whispers the price of being seen. She does not flinch. The light is a small republic tallying her skin. In the screens she multiplies, a hush of windows, each copy asking whether she is real. Then—she lifts her gaze and drafts the moment back: the bulbs dim to moths, the crowd to tide-foam. Her pulse sets the shutter speed. The centre moves. Around her, the cameras blink—studio fish— and what remains is ordinary: her name in her mouth, a crease in the jacket, the warmth of a human room.
Lyrics
A soft suit holds its hush. Phones bloom cold in rows. Minor moons are rising, every lens a little tide. Ceiling drips its secret, rafters do not confide. She stands in hired starlight, steady in the beam— Hands unlit at her sides, pockets full of breath and steam. Faces blur to weather, blue behind the glass. Thumbs ratchet, “hold it,” “focus,” “don’t let it pass.” Shallow little harbour, light breaks on her seam; A gull-cough in the corner, the price of being seen. Say her name, not the flash. Keep the light human, make it last. Say her name, not the flash. Let the room be warm, let the moment pass. (Say her name.) She does not flinch; the light’s small republic counts her skin. Windows hush with copies asking, “is she real?” again. She drafts the moment back—bulbs fall down to moths. The tide-foam thins to black; her pulse decides the shots. The centre slides and moves; the studio fish all blink. What’s left is ordinary—closer than you think. — Say her name, not the flash. Keep the light human, make it last. Say her name, not the flash. Let the room be warm, let the moment pass. (Say her name) her name. (Not the flash) not the flash. Her name in her mouth, a crease in the jacket, The heat of a room where the ordinary happens. Say her name, not the flash. Keep the light human, make it last. Say her name, not the flash. Let the room be warm, let the moment pass. Say her name, not the flash…
