Mentoring with Richard George Davis

Mentoring for your next step in creative work

One-to-one mentoring for designers, brand strategists, freelancers and people running small creative studios.

Paid, individual sessions. We’ll agree on the focus, fee and arrangements before you book.

I’ll meet you where you are in your work journey. You might be finding your direction, developing your practice or working through a project you can’t quite resolve. Bring a question, a piece of work or a decision. We’ll look at it together and work towards a useful next step.

What would you like to work through?

Find your direction

You have skills and interests, but you’re unsure where to focus. We can look at your work, the opportunities you’re considering and what you want to develop next. That might mean choosing what belongs in your portfolio, making your offer clearer or identifying a direction worth testing.

Build your strategic confidence

Bring a brief, an uncertain recommendation or a client question you’re struggling to answer. We can examine the assumptions, identify what you still need to know and work through how to explain your reasoning. The aim is to make a recommendation you understand well enough to discuss and defend.

Develop your independent practice

Running a creative practice brings decisions about what to offer, how to scope it and how to talk about its value. We can work through a proposal, your positioning or a difficult client conversation, then identify a specific change you can make.

Get perspective on your work

Bring a brand, website, presentation or selected portfolio piece. We’ll examine what it needs to achieve, what’s working and where a revision would make the most difference. You’ll have room to explain your choices and question the feedback.

Implement and use AI in your workflow

You might be getting started, experimenting without consistent results or trying to fit AI into an established process.

We can choose one task, work through the setup and test an approach together. For example, you could bring a sample brief and we could develop instructions that help you identify gaps, then check the output against the original. Other starting points include research, proposals, idea development and organising reusable knowledge.

We’ll look at the context the tool needs, how to assess its output and which decisions need to stay with you. Where practical, we’ll try a small example in tools you already use. The aim is a process you understand well enough to repeat, question and improve yourself.

Improve how you work

If a process keeps creating friction, we can look at why. That might involve gathering information, retaining decisions or moving a project from brief to delivery. We’ll choose a manageable change and decide how you’ll tell whether it helped.

What I bring to the conversation

My work connects brand strategy, design, websites, digital delivery and AI-assisted workflows. I work across the thinking and the making, so we can examine both the recommendation and what it would take to put it into practice.

I’ll ask questions, give you honest feedback and explain my reasoning. Your circumstances matter: the time you have, the people involved and the work you actually want to do.

You don’t need a polished brief. Something as simple as “this is where I’m getting stuck” gives us a place to start.

How it works

  1. Tell me what’s happening.

Send a short email about your work, the challenge you’re facing and what you’d like help with.

  2. We agree on the session.

I’ll confirm whether I can help, along with the focus, duration, fee, what’s included and meeting arrangements.

  3. Bring something we can work with.

A question, brief, proposal, work sample or workflow gives us a useful starting point. We’ll agree beforehand on anything that needs preparation.

  4. Work through your next step.

We’ll examine the problem, consider your options and identify what you can try afterwards.

A session might help you choose a portfolio revision, prepare a client conversation or test an AI workflow. We’ll focus on the question you bring rather than trying to cover every part of your practice.

Before you enquire

Who is this mentoring for?

This mentoring is for designers, brand strategists, freelancers and people running small creative studios. You might be starting out, developing your independent practice or changing direction. The fit depends on the question you bring and whether my experience in strategy, design, digital delivery and AI workflows can help.

What should I prepare for a mentoring session?

Bring one question or decision, a short explanation of the context and a relevant work sample if you have one. Include what you have tried and where you are getting stuck. You do not need a polished brief. We’ll agree on any specific preparation before the session.

How much does mentoring cost?

I’ll confirm the fee and what’s included before you commit. Your initial enquiry carries no obligation to book.

How long is a session, and where does it take place?

We’ll agree on the duration and meeting arrangements before you book. Include your time zone in your enquiry so we can discuss a suitable time. I’ll confirm the focus, fee and what is included together, so you can decide whether the proposed session fits what you need.

Can I share client work?

Please share only material you have permission to discuss, with unnecessary confidential information removed. We’ll agree before using any material in an AI tool. A public or fictional example can also give us something useful to work with.

Tell me where you are

What are you working on, and where would another perspective help?

Email hello@rgd.cx with a little context and your time zone. A link to your work is welcome, but optional. If your question concerns AI, include the task you want to improve and any tools you already use.
