He stepped outside one fateful night, beneath the silver city lights. But in the glow, he came to see— his shadow didn’t quite agree. The man stood tall, his voice was firm, his logic clean, his point confirmed. Yet at his feet, in silhouette, his shadow wavered, dark and wet. It shook its head, it tapped its toes, it bent where he refused to go. And when he asked, “Just what is this?” His shadow laughed… but did not hiss. Did I think too loud? Did I stand too long? Did the light reveal that I’ve been wrong? Step to the left, I’ll step to the right, argue with me and you’ll lose the fight. You cast me here, I play my part, but tell me now—who leads, who starts? The man, enraged, he stomped his feet, he tried to drag it down the street. But every move, each planned advance, his shadow swayed—a twisted dance. He drew a line, he made a stand, but shadows do not heed commands. And when he blinked, just for a breath, it grinned and leapt—swallowed the rest. We are stitched to what we make, but shadows do not bend nor break. You cast them first, but watch and see— in time, they start to cast thee. Step to the left, I’ll step to the right, argue with me and you’ll lose the fight. You cast me here, I play my part, but tell me now—who leads, who starts? "…who starts?"
