A recorded reading of “The Coat Keeps Going”. If the player does not load, use the original audio source.
The grass does not point towards anything. It bends, gives back, bends again— a thousand blades answering the same wind. Beyond it, the mountain keeps its long dark back under the cloud. Behind the ridge, a strip of blue refuses to close. She crosses the gold with one hand open, the other at the seam. Her hair crosses her face. Behind her, the coat takes the wind and widens— blue-grey, almost water, a second body keeping pace. No road. No house. No other figure to explain the distance. The frame withholds the reason. Far off, the mountain stays where it is. The coat keeps going, its long hem combing the dark stems. For a moment, the wind has a body.
