Wrong exit after the stadium. Orange lamps keep their distance along the wall. On the dash, your name is lit but untouched. The petrol light has found its small, insistent language. The radio has misplaced its station. Behind the trucks, a service road unthreads the city from itself. At the toll booth, one yellow eye waits for a decision it cannot make. I pass the place we stopped before. No map offers mercy. Still, the road goes on without knowing my name.
Lyrics
(vrrr) Wrong exit past the stadium. Orange lamps along the wall. Your name is on the dashboard. I do not press it at all. The petrol light is blinking. The radio has lost its tune. I take the road behind the trucks. And let the city move. Every sign says turn around. Every mile says not tonight. I keep one hand upon the wheel. And one hand out of sight. Take the service road. I do not want to go home. Take the service road. Let the engine carry on. A toll booth keeps its yellow eye. A dog runs through the petrol rain. I pass the place we stopped before. And do not turn again. I am not lost, I am just late. To being someone newer. No map can make the choice for me. (mm-mm) I take the road that does not know my name. Take the service road. I do not want to go home. Take the service road. Let the engine carry on. (shh-shh)
