Two coins. One orange button. The machine accepts both with a small, professional click. Behind the glass, rows of sugar wait under their fluorescent weather. The late bus has no driver. The shop has pulled down its gate. You say it is only change. Then a packet falls for someone else. You laugh and strike the metal base. I do not want the drink. I want the sentence we keep circling, still caught somewhere above the spiral.
Lyrics
(clink-clink) Two coins in the slot. One orange button. The machine eats both. And gives me nothing. The late bus has no driver. The shop has shut its gate. You say, it is only change. I say, it is getting late. The glass is full of things I want. The glass is full of things I cannot touch. Nothing comes out clean. Nothing comes out clean. I shake the whole machine. Nothing comes out clean. A packet falls for someone else. The light above it blinks. You laugh and kick the metal base. I watch the whole thing sink. I do not want another drink. I just want to talk to you. Maybe the stuck thing is the point. (whirr) Maybe we both know it. Nothing comes out clean. Nothing comes out clean. I shake the whole machine. Nothing comes out clean. (clink)
