In a field of green and gold, a wily fox at play; its tail a pennant in the cold. A paper mask across its face— a curious cutout in the open place. A glint of mischief at the eye; the fox kicked loose from earth, as if to try the higher air. For once, the ground let go—small body arced without a sound. Boundless joy in easy days: balloons and balls in bright arrays. The fox skimmed through the sunlit air, ribbons flicking; even the grass looked up to stare. Then a man stepped in to share the fun— and all that lift near-folded, nearly done. He raised the mask; the ribbons slipped. The fox went still, its breath tight-ribbed, ears canted, puzzled—held in place— until the man’s soft voice, close to the face, unwound the fear. The spine grew warm, a tremor passed along the withers’ form. Levitation, freedom—play’s sensation— returned like wind across a standing nation of grain; the fox took heart and rose, darting through light where barley combs. Together now—the man, the fox— they turned the barley’s hidden gears and shocks, laughing, leaping, light as seeds; a blue ball hummed past the hedge, through reeds. No music but the wind in heads, no lesson but to lift instead. In that green field’s golden flow, two figures wheeled—ribbons threading through the slow rye.
Alternative version
In a field of green and gold, a wily fox did play, so bold. A paper mask upon its face— a curious sight in this open space. With a glint of mischief in its eye, the fox leaped high, defying the sky. Ignoring gravity, ignoring earth’s hold, this little creature was free and bold. Boundless joy, in carefree days, with balloons and balls in colourful displays. The fox frolicked in the sunlit air, a vision so whimsical, beyond compare. But as a man came to join the fun, the fox’s playful game was suddenly done. Its mask was lifted, its ribbons slipped, the wily creature, for a moment, gripped by fear and confusion, it stood so still— until the man’s voice brought back the thrill. With words soft-spoken, a trust was renewed, and the fox once more felt its spirit imbued. Levitation, freedom, a playful sensation— the fox danced again in joyous elation. Together they spun, the man and the fox, laughing and leaping like time-tumbled clocks. In that field of green, in that golden glow, they danced in a rhythm the world didn’t know. A perfect moment, pure and free— the wily fox and the man, lost in glee.
