A recorded reading of “Two Spoons, One Window”. If the player does not load, use the original audio source.
**MARA** When we were twelve we stole two spoons from the canteen and buried them by the old pump. **ELI** I remember one spoon. Silver, bent at the neck. We buried it because you said the earth was a good safe. **MARA** There were two. I have the other one. The handle still carries your teeth marks. **ELI** You want the route card to say our worlds match. **MARA** I want it to say we found each other here. **ELI** That isn't the same thing. **MARA** No. I still want you to come back. **ELI** I can't promise a window. The map gives us nine minutes. **MARA** Then don't put my name under your signature. **ELI** I will write: one person asked to be remembered without being counted as a match. **MARA** And I will write: one person left me a spoon. **ELI** We eat from the same pot for seven minutes. The second spoon stays clean.
