She closes light beneath her lashes. Around her, the sea braids itself into an eight— teal upon teal, an orange current slipping through like a band of citrus heat. Small moons drift loose, thinking of tide. Her hair is midnight, polished to a hush. A red mouth banks its ember. What she knows moves without footsteps— eddies, orbit-gossip, the patient curve of yes and no— and the loop counts softly with her breathing. Past rises from below, future from above; they cross at her throat—a silk knot she won’t untie. She lets the knot learn her pulse. Inside the dark, maps unroll—coasts of when and when— no names, only weather. From far off she is a figure eight on a pale field. From farther still, a slender galaxy practising forever. When the ribbon finishes its sentence, it begins again, and two small planets stand watch, while her quiet spark holds for the next orbit.

She closes light beneath her quiet lids, the sea braids teal on teal into an eight; an orange current threads the orbit grids, while small stray moons keep watch and think of weight. Her hair is midnight, polished into hush; her embered mouth learns patience as it stays; what she has known moves wordless, without rush, the loop that counts her breath in tilted ways. Past lifts from below, future from above; they meet at throat—a patient silk drawn taut; she lets it learn her pace, and call it love; maps unroll—coasts of when-and-when left taut. From far, an eight on pale field stands in light; two small planets stand watch as day turns night.
