Radio snow powders the dash. I sweep the dial through cities of hiss. A syllable with my face on it crackles. “Answer”—a made word—finds me. Noise learns lighthouse; across the line, a porch light clicks, flickers. Present and clear enough.
Alternative version
Cracked FM, neon on rain; I tune past doubt by hand. I’ve been talking over my truth; the hiss is loose wire and weather. Hear—me— now: through static, through the crowd, I come in clear. Every wrong note taught my throat to hold heavier hope. Signal up. I’m here.
Lyrics
(Ssshh—) Dead air buzz, cracked FM, Hands on the dial, tune again. Neon sign on a rainy wall, Same old doubt, same old call. I’ve been talking over my own truth, Filling the gaps with a brittle youth. But the hiss has a hidden name, And tonight I claim my flame. Turn it right, turn it left, Find the place where fear gets deaf. If my voice breaks, let it break, That’s the sound of a chain awake. Hear— me— Hear me now, Through the static, through the crowd. Hear me now, I’m not lost, I’m getting loud. Static to signal, dark to bright, I turn that noise into nightlight. (Whoa-oh-oh) call me clear, (Whoa-oh-oh) I’m right here. Taxi splash in a puddle lane, Radio flips, finds a chorus again. My hands shake, but they don’t drop, I don’t vanish when the music stops. You say “keep going”, I say “okay,” Blue-light maps to a better day. Every wrong note taught my throat How to hold a heavier hope. Turn it right, turn it left, Find the place where fear gets deaf. If my voice breaks, let it break, That’s the sound of a chain awake. Tune— a— gain— Hear me now, Through the static, through the crowd. Hear me now, I’m not lost, I’m getting loud. Static to signal, dark to bright, I turn that noise into nightlight. (Whoa-oh-oh) call me clear, (Whoa-oh-oh) I’m right here. Signal up, Hands up, Don’t look down, Stand up. If the world can’t hear me yet, I’ll be louder with every breath. Now— Hear me now… [Lead] Hear me— [BVs] NOW! [Lead] Static— [BVs] TO SIGNAL!
