A recorded reading of “Low Country Law”. If the player does not load, use the original audio source.
The grass holds last night’s rain in a thousand knuckles. A cat of weather moves low—slow—shadow-stitched in gold, shoulder by shoulder unwinding the day. His whiskers read the wind like braille. Mud gives, then forgets. Across the blur—dark backs, horned brackets— wildebeest settle into a patient line, breath lifting in steam; the line holds. He passes as if the light were meat. Tickbirds stoop and swallow gnats. Stone keeps its silence. The rain has the only voice and it is quiet. Then the veld narrows to a thought: between thunder and grass, there is only a pause. He writes his pause across it— paw, paw, paw—inked in water. By the time the herd decides anything, the prints are already filling, and the law is just this: a soft place remembers, and then it closes.
