Clouds wrap round the mountain’s face. City sleeps in its stone embrace. Tourists climb where eagles fly. Streets below scrape against the sky. Vendors shout at taxi stands. Boys sell shells from ocean sands. The table glows in sunset fire, while shacks grow high— climbing higher. Postcards show the peaks, the bays— but they never tell the streets’ true maze. Each step between the light and shade— is a bridge that waits to be made. The lion’s roar cuts through the mist— we hear the call. We can’t resist. Lion of the hill—hear us calling, from harbour edge to high plateau. Lion of the hill—keep on roaring, till the fire in our hearts won’t slow. Siyaphambili! Siyaphambili! Cable cars lift the dreamers high— but dreams are bound to the open sky. From Camps Bay sands to Bo-Kaap lanes, every voice here feels the chains. We climb together— hand in hand, from market stalls to mountain land. The lion’s roar will guide our way— till night gives in to the break of day.
Lyrics
The clouds wrap round the mountain’s face The city sleeps at its stone embrace Tourists climb where the eagles fly But the streets below still scrape the sky Vendors shout at the taxi stand Boys sell shells from the ocean sand The table stands in the sunset fire While the shacks grow high, climbing higher The postcards show the bays and peaks But the photographs don’t tell the streets Every step between the light and shade Is a bridge that’s waiting to be made The lion’s roar cuts through the mist We hear the call, we can’t resist (Lion of the hill, hear us calling) From the harbour to the high plateau (Lion of the hill, keep on roaring) Till the fire in our hearts won’t slow (Chant: “Siyaphambili! Siyaphambili!”) The cable cars lift the dreamers high But the dream is shared with the open sky From Camps Bay sands to the Bo-Kaap lanes Every voice here feels the chains We’ll climb together, hand in hand From the market stalls to the mountain land And the lion’s roar will guide the way Till the night gives in to the break of day
