A library happens where the ceiling should be— no beams, no weather: page-breath, dust-breath, and the clean click of a drawer set loose. Air holds its sections—bone, opal, dusk— as if colour could be filed and found. I step in like a misfiled card. My name—so long I carried it with both hands— slips weightless, ribbon-thin, drawn from a spine and laid across my palm. Glass chimes mark each turning: a three-note hinge, bright as cut water, tapping the room into time. Books lie open like tide-maps, margins salted, corners curled to weather. Stone keeps its milkfire under-surface— veins that remember heat without speaking. I brought my questions folded tight, creased into receipts, stamped with old nights, pocketed like coins you never spend. I brought the parts of me I clipped away to fit through narrow doors— and meet a desk with no attendant, only the stamp-pad’s dark square, waiting. My finger tracks what isn’t ink: the coastline where I cut myself smaller, the line I kept because it stung— a due-date I kept extending. I read the blank as a card pocket: where the world once slid me in, labelled, returned. Wax runs in gold-warm threads down a candle’s slow decision, sealing and unsealing the same sentence. Grammar loosens at the joints. My shoulders learn the verb: unclench. Pastel creatures drift the aisles like commas that refuse to hurry, their neon edges insisting—no slogan, no threat— Cross the dark. So I do. Not with bravery— with the simple pressure of feet on floor, with the sound a book makes when it finally lets go. In the far third of the room silence changes its job: a catalogue card slid back into place, a drawer closing softly so everything can be found again. If the universe is learning my voice, let it learn the whole of it— not a whisper trained to hide, not a note trimmed down for safety, but breath with teeth, sound with a spine. I don’t need a perfect ending. Just the light arriving the way it always has: through a thin slit at the page’s edge, through the dust-motes lifting, through the hinge-chime returning— quiet, insistent, turning. And when the last drawer settles, the book still doesn’t speak. It sets the stamp in my hand, ink-cool, and the mark it leaves is only this: a small, legible yes in the pocket of the air.

A library opens where there should be sky— no walls, no roof, only the hush that makes my name feel weightless, something I can hold without a crush. Pages opal as a tide mid-turn, milkfire threaded through the stone. I don’t have to be brave to stay: honeyfracture, slow aurora— and I am still here, breathing, saying: I’m not alone. I came with questions folded tight, receipts of weight, a pocket full of night. I open what was opening me— no proof, no pressure, only room to breathe. The book won’t speak; it refracts my seams and hands my heart back quietly. A finger follows what isn’t ink: contour-maps of what I cut away, lines I kept because they sting, still calling me to stay. Liquid wax in gold-warm rivulets, and I can finally unclench— grammar melting into joints, ribbon bookmarks, gentle, patient, steering my pulse where it points. Pastel creatures drift like commas, neon-edged: Cross the dark. I open what was opening me— no proof, no pressure, only room to breathe. The book won’t speak; it refracts my seams and hands my heart back quietly. If the universe is learning my voice, I’ll stop whispering to survive. I don’t need a perfect ending. I just need the light to arrive. So I open what was opening me— no proof, no pressure—just the room, the breathe. The book won’t speak; it keeps remaking seams, and sets my heart back down, quietly— like page-turns turning into chimes in the pocket of the air.
