Luck ring scuffed thin; still it steers. Coffee stains cuff a paper wristband. If it’s fate I meet it running; if it’s fight I square up— Choose— and the sky tilts, consenting. Half-bright still works on wet stone. I heat my name till the metal yields.
Alternative version
Scuffed good-luck ring; a car-park glow that’s not holy—just enough. Street sign buzz like a nervous hymn; I laugh. If it’s fate, I’ll meet it running; if it’s fight, I’ll meet it running. Choose— and keep going. Halfway halo burns low, but it shows the way.
Lyrics
(Oh—) Good luck ring, scuffed and thin, Still I bet, I play to win. Halfway halo, parking-lot glow, Not holy — just enough to go. Wristband ink and a paper cup, Cheap caffeine just to keep me up. Street sign buzz like a nervous hymn, I laugh out loud at the dark’s attempt. If it’s fate, I’ll meet it running, If it’s fight, I’ll keep it coming. If they want me small, I won’t comply, I’ve got my own sky in my eye. Choose— Fate or fight, Either way I’m out tonight. Fate or fight, I don’t quit in dirty light. Halfway halo, burning low, Still it shows me where to go. (Whoa-oh-oh) I don’t fold, (Whoa-oh-oh) I turn to gold. Coffee stain on my wristband mark, Plans still bright in a busted dark. Bus card beep, late again, But I’m rich in “try” and “when.” They say “slow down”, I say “watch this,” I’ve been patient, now I’m honest. Every almost, every near, Built a spine out of my fear. If it’s fate, I’ll meet it running, If it’s fight, I’ll keep it coming. If my hands shake, let them shake, I don’t break — I make a way. Hold— up— Fate or fight, Either way I’m out tonight. Fate or fight, I don’t quit in dirty light. Halfway halo, burning low, Still it shows me where to go. (Whoa-oh-oh) I don’t fold, (Whoa-oh-oh) I turn to gold. Stand tall, Don’t stall, Hear me breathe, Hear me call. Not perfect, Just real, This is how I learn to feel. Now— Fate or fight… [Lead] Fate— [BVs] OR FIGHT! [Lead] Out— [BVs] TONIGHT!
