A resilient poem of someplace, look, and home, charting self-possession and forward motion.
May 11, 2004Early Notebooks
Is there someplace I should be?
I look to my home, but hope fades from me.
The walls are familiar, yet hollow inside,
and still, there is nowhere to hide.
Is there something I should be feeling?
A call to the sea, or the warmth that's healing—
the way the sun sets, casting its glow,
but here I am, with nowhere to go.
A restless heart, an empty stare,
searching for meaning in the thinning air.
Oh no, I cry, but no answer comes,
a silent plea in a world that numbs.
Is there a purpose I’ve yet to find?
A place to rest, a peace of mind?
For now, I wander, lost in the gray,
hoping for light at the end of this day.
