A hooded woman in dark armour crouches on a rain-soaked stone gargoyle above a city lit by warm windows.

Under the rain-dark towers of The Nine Bells, The Votive moves across the rooftops with a watchful eye on the city below. Bronze-edged armour and a shadowed hood catch the warm light spilling from cathedral windows, while wet stone and night rain close around her.

She is Margot Baines, a stained-glass and photographic-plate conservator who steals back falsified records from the charter council. After returning a record to its neighbourhood, she leaves a candle burning in a chapel window: a small, steady sign that the truth has come home.
